About New York Psychology & Wellness

New York can be a tough city. We're competitive. We're proud. We exist in crammed, shared spaces and, yet, despite our proximity to so many others, often feel isolated and disconnected. Given the daily hurdles of our hectic lives, it's no wonder that anxiety and depression can set in, and that we may too often find ourselves stuck in self-defeating patterns.

Founded by Dr. Eric Garfinkle, a clinical psychologist and former attorney, New York Psychology and Wellness is a place where you can make strides toward living as your best self. In the context of an affirming therapeutic relationship, we believe that everyone can discover a unique path to healing. Dr. Garfinkle proudly uses his clinical skills and training to help clients discover how to feel better through enriched relationships, improved wellness, enhanced creativity, and more gratifying work experiences.

Dr. Garfinkle completed his doctorate at the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology where he focused on relational psychodynamic and integrative approaches to psychotherapy for anxiety and depressive disorders. He also conducted first of its kind research on associations between cannabis use, mental health, and physiological indicators of wellbeing. Additionally, he has worked extensively with young adults, completing his doctoral internship at the University of Pennsylvania counseling center.

Treatment

Specializing in Treatment for Depression, Anxiety, and Couples Therapy.

Depression

Depression can cause life to feel  hopeless. Things that once brought pleasure cease to do so and, for some sufferers, it may seem like they are caught in an endless gloom. I have helped many clients overcome depression by assisting them in identifying its causes, and then working collaboratively at finding solutions to better living.

Anxiety

Anxiety can take different forms, but its end result is the same: Life's joys become crowded out by persistent worry. Sometimes anxiety may also cause frightening panic symptoms, which can lead to a further retreat from life and possibly trigger depression. If anxiety has become an obstacle to your happiness, psychotherapy can make a difference.

Couples Therapy

Entering couples therapy is incredibly courageous! It is rejecting the status quo in your relationship in search of greater intimacy and connection. Whether you are looking for help improving communication patterns or working out conflicts, couples therapy can help you reestablish a secure and loving bond with your partner.
